Norwood University

I have just finished year 11 at school, should i be aquiring university prospectus' now?

My friend in the same year is going to look around some universities this summer but i think it is too early. I am considering ordering prospectus' though. Is this wise??

  1. I wouldn't bother - I am a University graduate and I didn't look into Universities, until my school teachers starting talking about the UCAS process.
  2. I'm currently in my first year of sixth form and I started looking at universities during the summer of year 11. I found it really interesting and it helped me decide what course and whereabouts I wanted to do it. So I don't have to panic later on when some people will have no idea what they want. By doing this it also helps you to get a feel of the university experience and may motivate you to work harder to get a place.
  3. I guess it's whether you have any idea about what you want to do... I'm in my first year at sixth form, and I started ordering prospectuses as soon as the year 13 applications closed (january). This has given me enough time to look at uni's and get a idea of what i want to study, and as the application process has just opened for me, and doesn't close until next january, I hope I've allowed myself time to make the right decision :) It may help though if you want to study law/medicine/veterinary sciences to have a look now, because it's a lot tougher to get onto these courses, hence they have separate open days, and it would give you an idea of how much work you need to be putting into your A-Levels. And believe me, no matter what grades you get in your GCSE's - it's ALOT!! I would say, just enjoy this summer of 'freedom' and don't get caught up in the stress of looking at uni's etc, when you go to sixth form/college, they have services to help you identify what you are looking for in a uni, more then you will be able to identify yourself :) Plus, the tend to explain all the lingo ;) Good Luck with any exams you have left, and I hope your results are what you hope they'll be! xxx
  4. maybe you should just chill for the summer. i've already got a prospectus for UCL and Imperial but thats because someone gave me one and the other i got from a careers/universities fair thing for year 11 at my school. its good to be informed though..like before i didnt know for medicine you'd need at least a B in english language and maths at GCSE...its good motivation for the exams but lol theyre almost over now. get them if you want to, theyll just be something to read its not like youre filling out your ucas over the summer or anything :)
